Potential Dangers in a Sporting Goods Store
There are a number of potential dangers when wandering around an outdoor equipment store. It is unlikely that you will have an accident unless an employee or the store’s manager(s) fail to implement standard safety practices that would be expected in any store. Here are a few examples of ways you might be injured:
- Outdoor equipment is varied and potentially hazardous. It should be kept neatly displayed or placed on shelves or in display cases. Items are often brought out to show customers their features. If this is not put away again carefully, it can be a trip hazard as customers walk around the store.
- If the store has more than one level, staircases may have poorly fitted coverings that could be a slip hazard. An injury might lead to a personal injury claim against that particular sporting goods store.
- Large stores have to be well lit. If any of the lighting is faulty or not as bright as it should be, this could lead to injuries from a slip or a trip and fall accident.
- Many sporting goods stores are popular all year round because they sell equipment for all seasons. In winter, potentially slippery conditions outside the store but on its property could be an accident hazard. If this is not cleared away or removed, an injury may be grounds for a personal injury claim.
Negligence and the Need for an Attorney After a Personal Injury
It is not possible to make a personal injury claim if you are solely responsible for an injury. In many, but not all states, comparative fault laws allow you to make a partial claim if you are partly to blame for an accident but someone at the store, or the store itself, is also partly to blame. To find out what you are entitled to claim and how long you have to make a claim, talk to a personal injury attorney. Invariably, these attorneys do not charge legal fees unless they win a claim on your behalf.
